Muscle Shoals Studio
If you are a music historian or just interested in where and how much of the classic Rock, Soul, and Pop music was recorded, you have probably heard of Muscle Shoals.
Muscle Shoals Studio is located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Many great artists have recorded there. The Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Cher, (yes, Cher), and many others. This little studio and its house band, The Swampers, are a major contributor to much of the classic hits from the 70’s, 80’s and beyond.
I had become aware of the studio and its reputation through various sources, including the Rolling Stones movie, “Gimme Shelter”. This was a movie following the Stones 1969 tour. During this tour they stopped into Muscle Shoals studio and recorded three songs for their upcoming album, “Sticky Fingers”. The tracks recorded were, Brown Sugar, You Gotta Move, and Wild Horses.
In the Spring of this year, 2022, my wife Donna and I, drove down to Muscle Shoals to tour the studio. After the tour I asked it it was still possible to book time at the studio. They said yes, but I would need to send some mp3’s of my work for them to review as they have an approval process. Fortunately, I passed the test. I immediately booked a session for October 9, 10, and 11. The plan was to record maybe 4 songs as part of an album we are currently working on.
